Ok here are some tips, if   you find that you are dying quite often and aren't getting more than 3+ killing streaks switch off Scavenger for Sleight of hand, whats the point of resuppling your ammo if you never get close to running out. If you are using lower Kill Streaks like UAV/Carepackage/Sentry Gun  I wouldn't use hardline because after 4 kills its the equivalent of not having a red perk anymore.  Id go with stopping power or cold blooded.  

Have a class for running, for stealth, for sniping, an assault rifle class and most importantly a cold blooded class w/ a stinger to take out enemy killstreaks, and change to this as soon as you die.  I can not stress how agravating it is to be on a good KS and have to lay low from a harrier because nobody on my team will take the 5 seconds to blow it up.  Once you die, switch ur class, blow it up, then switch back.  You get a lot of points and you can turn the tides of the game and prevent people from getting higher kill streaks such as nukes when you do this.

If you are sniping or holding down an area, put claymores at your flanks, even if someone with marathon run passes them and doesn't die, you will hear the explosion and will know exactly where the enemy is so take your shotgun out and get ready for him to turn the corner. also learn how to plan your claymores efficiently, just youtube if you dont know how. 

Use your radar, this is your best friend and the most useful aspect of non-hardcore.  Also on closed quarter maps such as skidrow or salvage, when you kill someone and do not use a silencer, you can be sure to expect their teammates to go to the red dot (you) that appeared on their radar, so don't reload your weapon if you dont absolutely have too, i constantly kill people that are reloading their weapon that still has 1/2-1/3 of a clip left.  If anything switch your weapon.  Also get to a corner and to a semi-camp after you kill someone because you can expect someone else to come after you considering you appeared on their radar.

A good Killstreak setup is Predator + Harrier + Emergency/Pavelow/Chopper(or AC130).  

When you have 4 kills, try to play real conservative and kinda camp to get your 5th kill for the predator, and make sure you are safe when you use it. i can usually get a double kill and then i have enough for harrier (dont use attack hellicopter, u dont get to drop bombs like the harrier and the damn think circles the map not giving it good angles on opponents a lot of times)
